FAQ
Addiction recovery coaching is not something we run across in daily life. If you have questions beyond those below, feel free to contact me.
-
Nothing that we discuss will be divulged to anyone else. I do not report or have an obligation to any organization. Without your prior permission, I will not even disclose that we are in communication.
-
No, my services are not covered by any insurance provider that I am aware of. However, you are free to ask your own and I will work with them if possible.
-
My life experiences are uncommon and provide a unique context to my recovery and coaching skills and knowledge.
I know what it means to serve, how the warrior spirit and drive to serve others can negatively impact our own recovery. I understand the hardships this can place on family, the difficulty we can encounter relating to ‘civilians’, and the attributes that we can exploit to progress our recovery.
-
Not at all. I adhere to the best practices of coaching. If anything, my own recovery has made me more empathetic and supportive.
In general, veterans tend to be mission-focused and progress-oriented. We are organized and confident. My coaching reflects this.

Coaching is, by design, flexible and responsive. We can schedule meetings weekly, more frequently, or less. If challenges arise, meetings can be made on short notice.
The meetings need not be a predetermined length. Sometimes a check-in and conversation is sufficient. Sometimes a particular challenge will require dedicated time. The frequency and duration of meetings will change to meet your needs.
-
A recovery coach offers additional supports and advantages. For example:
high flexibility and availability regarding duration, frequency and topic of a meeting
individual and personalized
specific challenges are tracked and progress measured
the coach is not your therapist or sponsor, they are your partner and team-mate
the coach is not tied, restricted or focused on any particular recovery pathway or approach. We will discuss anything that may be helpful; all that matters is what works for you
-
Addiction recovery coaching is available for as long as you feel the need and benefit.
It may be a short-term partnership to surmount specific obstacles to recovery. It may be longer-term if you are in the early stages of recovery and stick with it.
It may also be periodic, with infrequent check-ins, motivational conversations and occasional focused effort. It is what you need it to be.
-
The interactions between coach and recoveree will vary, but consist primarily of conversation.
The coach may recommend activities or readings that are entirely voluntary. For example, a link to a recognized addiction recovery site, an examination of your personal hierarchy of values, a change plan, or something similar.
Zoom and phone are the most common interactions. While I will not coach over text or email, that doesn’t prevent using them for scheduling meetings, words of encouragement, quick questions, etc.
-
I will contact you via email or phone to schedule a time to talk. This is our chance to determine if we’re a suitable match, and there is no fee. If we both agree we’ll move forward.
If we’re not a match, I may still be able to offer links or resources.
